  16. The comp.lang.* groups *were* intended to be platform-independent, with 
  17. the platform-dependent stuff going to comp.os.ms-windows.programmer.* or 
  18. whatever.  Unfortunately, however logical that division may seem to you 
  19. and me, most people's minds don't work that way.  When they have a 
  20. programming problem, they first focus on the language that they are 
  21. using, and head for comp.lang.whatever.  It simply doesn't occur to them 
  22. to focus on the platform first.  (This is not intended as a put-down or a 
  23. flame... just a statement of what appears to be fact.)

  25. That's why we now have comp.lang.c++.moderated, where platform 
  26. independence can be enforced.
